A message from Father Jack Wall: Read Bishop Mark Seitz’s letter on El Paso shooting

In the times in which we live, God’s light is needed more than ever. Almost daily, we learn of the many places across our great land that experience tragic moments of darkness which only seek to divide us and keep us from the union in which God created us to be.

Following the horrific mass shooting in El Paso, Texas, which claimed the lives of 22 innocent people, Bishop Mark Seitz of the Diocese of El Paso wrote a moving pastoral letter entitled “Night Will Be No More.” In it, he sheds light on the distressing realities of racism affecting our country and threatening our ability to live as a people of God.

We are so grateful for the courage and compassion of Bishop Seitz, a servant bishop who leads a diocese that Catholic Extension Society has long supported. He is joined by many other pastoral leaders – bishops, priests, religious and lay from other Extension dioceses whose insight and wisdom is a source of inspiration and encouragement not only to the people with whom they journey in faith, but to all of us who are convinced of the transformative power of faith to change our ways of thinking and acting in our American culture and society.

I urge you to read this prophetic pastoral letter, and we hope to continue to offer you the opportunity to hear “the voice of the voiceless” from the Catholic faith communities you so generously support.

God bless,
Father Jack Wall
President, Catholic Extension Society
