These kids are going back to school… one year after their parents were deported.

Leave a Note of Hope

Update: The Notes of Hope have been delivered! Thank you to everyone who submitted!

This fall, hundreds of children in the Diocese of Jackson, Mississippi will start school again. It will be a sad and difficult reminder of their first day of school last year.

On that day, August 7th, 2019, they came home to find their parents gone… detained or deported in Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) raids.

The raids left these young children scared, confused and traumatized. As we approach the one-year anniversary of this horrific event, many of these kids are still trying to deal with the heartache caused by the raids.

You can help ease their pain by sharing a personal note that will provide hope and encouragement for these kids on this painful anniversary. Let them know that they are in our hearts and our prayers by writing a Note of Hope.

Why is Catholic Extension Society collecting Notes of Hope?

Catholic Extension Society has stood in solidarity with the poorest, most marginalized communities in America for over 115 years.

In that time, we have built strong relationships with the churches and ministries who serve these faithful groups.

From the day ICE raided seven chicken processing plants in the Jackson area, Catholic Extension Society began offering support to the devastated families in this community through our Holy Family Fund.

Collecting and sharing Notes of Hope from thoughtful people like you will let struggling children in Jackson know that they’re loved, and not alone.

How will my Note of Hope get to children in the Diocese of Jackson?

We will work with our partner in the Diocese of Jackson, the Southeast Pastoral Institute (SEPI), to figure out how to best deliver these notes.

SEPI is the administrator of the Trauma Intervention Program, which addresses the long-term suffering caused by a system where parents are forcibly removed from their children.
