Socius is the Latin word for companion and embodies the essential aspect of the Catholic Extension movement: to answer Christ’s call to walk side by side with the missioners serving Catholics in the poorest areas of country.
We see Catholic Extension as a movement within the US Church that is building and strengthening the Catholic faith in the poorest and most remote areas of our country. Through the generosity of our donors, we are inspiring hope where there is none, transforming hearts and strengthening families, and more often than not, changing some of the social situations that are standing in the way of opportunity.
The Socius Circle stands at the forefront of this movement. With their annual commitment of $1,000 or greater, these leaders have responded to Pope Francis’s call to bring Christ to the peripheries of our society. These leaders believe this can be a time of renewal and revitalization for the Catholic Church in America. Already in our mission dioceses we are seeing this energy and growth!
This wonderful growth presents a daunting (albeit very welcome) challenge. Today, more than ever mission dioceses continue to need your compassion and leadership. People may be poor, but hope convinces them that God will provide the ability to make a change in their lives and in the future of their children. These needs are great, but so are the opportunities.
In the face of great need, the Socius Circle provides the leadership and impact necessary to bring this hope to realization. This movement believes that by responding to the urgent needs of poor Catholics in these remote communities of faith, these good and caring people will ultimately enhance the future of our Church and our American culture. With their leadership, together we’ll unleash a vibrant faith that transforms hearts, lives, and society.
We invite you to prayerfully consider walking with them as their companion…
and unleash a vibrant faith that will shape hearts, live, and society!
