Catholic Extension is honored to announce Father John Jenkins, C.S.C. as this year’s recipient of the Spirit of Francis Award. The award will be presented at a dinner event at the Metropolitan Club of New York in New York City on October 22.
Father Jenkins is president of the University of Notre Dame and has a long and distinguished resume. A graduate of Notre Dame with both undergraduate and advanced degrees from the University, he has numerous published works and many years of service to advance and represent the U.S. Catholic Church through academia and other endeavors.
In its second year, the Spirit of Francis National Award recognizes an individual or group that has made a significant impact on the mission of the Catholic Church in America through service or philanthropy. Spirit of Francis Award recipients are laudable for their commitment “to reach out to the margins of society” in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi, Pope Francis, and the founder of Catholic Extension, Father Francis Clement Kelley.
