Catholic Extension seeks to support the participation of Catholic high schools in the mission dioceses through this initiative developed by the University of Notre Dame’s Institute for Church Life. This initiative seeks to assist in integrating scientific and religious perspectives into the curriculum. The University’s Institute for Church Life has developed this program in order to address the challenge by “many contemporary voices which continue to promote themes of conflict and separation between religion and science.”
Intended Outcomes of the Initiative:
- Introduce teachers in Catholic high schools to the dialogue between theology and the natural sciences (biology and physics)
- Assist teachers in incorporating that material into their existing courses (or to create new courses)
- Evaluate the results
- Provide input to help develop model courses for nationwide dissemination
This initiative involves a five-day intensive seminar, June 19-24, 2016 at the University of Notre Dame’s campus in South Bend, Indiana.
Catholic Extension is not able to offer funding for this initiative in 2016. However, the University of Notre Dame is able to offer the seminar at no cost, as well as a stipend to all participants. Click here for more information and to apply.
