Building the Catholic Faith One Church at a Time
In Scottsville, Kentucky there's a little wooden sign that reads, "Catholic Church, half block up on the left." But when you drive by, you find that it's just a little 1960's style modular home with a steeple on top. There's barely room to stand. It's no bigger than a living room.
It is the only Catholic church in the entire county. There's nowhere else for Catholics to go! Although many people want to attend Mass, there's not even enough room to sit down. Some people end up standing outside and watching the Mass through windows.
Unfortunately, this happens in tiny churches all over America. Catholics, and those drawn to the Catholic Faith, want to worship and participate but they simply can't for lack of space.
Broken down churches are common in America's mission areas. People travel far and wide to worship -- and when they get to church for Mass, it's often in an old and worn out building that is badly in need of repair.
All Catholics know the importance of the parish church in their lives and communities. It's where we celebrate Mass and the Sacraments: Baptisms,
First Communions, marriages, and funerals. Most importantly, our church is our base for sharing God's love with others and spreading the Catholic Faith. But how can a church's community grow if there is nowhere to come together in the Faith?
Your secure online gift today in any amount can help tiny churches in mission areas like Texas, Kansas, Alabama, Kentucky, New Mexico, Alaska and other places where Catholics are the minority.
