Weekly Meditation

Today we remember and honor Dr. Martin L. King, Jr.
He was a man of peaceful and non-violent approach
to justice, especially for racial and economic justice
in our country at a time when it called for vision and
genuine courage on his part. He was a man of deep
abiding faith in God.

Reflect on a few lines from his speech at the
Lincoln Memorial on August 28, 1963:

"Let us not wallow in the valley of despair.
I say to you today, my friends, so even though
we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow,
I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted
in the American dream. I have a dream that one
day this nation will rise up and live out the
true meaning of its creed, 'We hold these truths
to be self-evident that all men are created equal.'"

In his efforts to overcome racial injustice he said,
"I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional
love will have the final word."
