Weekly Meditation

On the first Sunday of Lent, in cathedrals and
other churches in our country the Rite of Election
took place. In this Rite the bishop or his
representative welcomed thousands of persons in
the process of the Rite of Christian Initiation
of Adults. They continue through the Lenten season
with the more personal intimate preparation for
their initiation in our Catholic church at the Easter Vigil.

We show our interest and welcome by praying for
them during these weeks of Lent that they will
make this final preparation for generously responding
to God's call in their life. It is also time for
us to rejoice over those who have come with God's
grace to embrace the Catholic faith and join us
through the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation
and Eucharist in our wonderful Catholic faith and life.

The church bids us join these "elect" and not only
pray for them but travel with them in our own personal
process of conversion so that their initiation will
prompt us to renew with extra vigor our own baptismal promises.
