2012 Lumen Christi Award Nominations

This year, Catholic Extension is proud to celebrate the 35th anniversary of our Lumen Christi Award, Latin for "Light of Christ". This exciting award is presented annually to an inspiring, dedicated individual (or group) that continuously demonstrates, through their service, how the power of faith can transform lives and communities in the most under-resourced dioceses in the United States.

The Lumen Christi Award is accompanied by a $50,000 grant that will assist the recipient in bringing the light of Christ to their community. The honoree and nominating diocese will each receive $25,000 to enhance a specific area of their ministry. Prior to awarding the grant, Catholic Extension will discuss and agree upon the use of the grant with both the recipient and the recipient's diocese.

Submit a nomination today, and your diocese will benefit just for celebrating those who build faith, inspire hope and ignite change in your local community. Dioceses that submit 1-3 nominations will receive $1,000 to go towards the ministry of the nominee. If the nominee is selected as a finalist, the diocese and finalist will each receive a $5,000 grant instead. A finalist and diocese can only receive the $5,000 grant once but is eligible to be a finalist if re-nominated.

Nomination Requirements

  1. Nominations must be submitted by a U.S. mission diocese.
