Mission dioceses state time and again that the retreat experience for college students and young adults is one of the most impactful experiences they have. Often it is because of what they experience on a retreat, that young adults get involved and stay connected with their campus ministry throughout their formative college years, and remain leaders in their dioceses.
Recognizing that every young adult deserves to have the chance to experience the transformative power of a retreat, Catholic Extension seeks to find ways to provide greater support for campus ministries and young adult ministries, in their efforts to invite and include more young adults to be part of the retreat experience.
Catholic Extension is therefore offering a challenge grant to campus ministries and young adult ministries in the mission dioceses, to be used for upcoming retreats in the 2014-2015 academic year. Applicants will state the number or percent of new college students/young adults that they will attract to their retreat, increasing from the previous number who participated. Catholic Extension will award the campus ministry or young adult ministry the challenge grant to be used to meet that increased goal. The amount of the challenge grant award will depend on the size of the campus ministry, the cost to increase the number of retreatants, and the size and percent of the increase of new retreat participants.
Value to Participating Diocese: Up to $2,000 per youth ministry or campus ministry.
