International Priests Workshop Initiative

The purpose of this initiative is to provide an opportunity for international priests to reduce their accents and receive cultural training in order to enhance their effectiveness as pastoral leaders in your diocese.

The International Priests Workshop provides international priests an opportunity to enhance their effectiveness as pastoral leaders.

Catholic Extension and St. Meinrad Seminary’s Institute for Priests and Presbyterates have partnered to offer language and culture workshops for international priests. The agreement covers 100 percent of the cost of this training. Catholic Extension also will share a portion of the cost of lodging for priests who require overnight accommodations to attend the workshop.

This training gives international priests the skills they need to speak with a standard American accent, proclaim the Gospel and other liturgical texts in a more listener-friendly manner, and learn strategies for effective interpersonal communication in the United States. It is best accomplished in eight, one-hour sessions. Workshops can take place over two or three days, depending on the needs and availability of the participants. An instructor will travel to your diocese to offer this workshop at a mutually agreed location and time, between mid-May and mid-August.

The workshop is intended for international priests who are new to the United States, as well as for those who already have experience serving in the country.

Duration: 2 days
Value to Participating Diocese: $8,375 (per workshop)
