Catholic School Leadership Development

The purpose of this initiative is to enable your diocese to develop and retain its Catholic school system’s most promising leaders.

Catholic Extension has partnered with Loyola Marymount University’s Center for Catholic Education to offer a certificate leadership program to a group of 15 novice or emerging leaders working in your Catholic schools. This agreement covers 80 percent of the cost of tuition.

This one-year, 10-credit educational program provides training specifically geared to the Catholic school environment and covers topics that include Catholic identity; curriculum development; and best practices in governance, fundraising, finance, and human resource administration.

Participants complete courses on evenings and weekends through a combination of online sessions and group classes offered by a traveling university instructor at a predetermined location in the diocese. The diocesan superintendent must select and approve all those participating in this initiative.

After receiving their certificate, students are expected to commit a minimum of two years of service to a Catholic school in their diocese. Additionally, they will be given the opportunity to apply their new skills by implementing a specific project to enhance their  local Catholic school in a strategic area of need identified by its principal.

Duration: 1 year
Value to Participating Diocese: $124,000 (per cohort of 15 students)
