Catholic School Leadership Development

The purpose of this initiative is to enable your diocese to develop and retain its Catholic school system’s most promising leaders.

Loyola Marymount University
Loyola Marymount University is a national leader in Catholic School Education.

Catholic Extension is partnering with Loyola Marymount University’s Catholic School Leadership Academy to offer a Certificate in Catholic School Administration to emerging leaders working in your Catholic schools. This agreement covers 80 percent of the cost of tuition, as well as funding for technology, resources and travel to an orientation on campus at Loyola Marymount University in the fall of 2014.

This custom-designed one-year, 10-unit, educational program provides training specifically geared to the Catholic school environment and covers topics that include Catholic identity; curriculum development; and best practices in governance, fundraising, finance, and human resource administration. All of the certificate coursework will count toward a Master of Arts at LMU.

Participants are grouped into teams of three students in a diocese who will meet regularly at a predetermined location.  Courses are held on evenings and weekends and taught through online sessions collaborating with groups in other dioceses in a virtual classroom. The diocesan superintendent must select and approve all those participating in this initiative.

After receiving their Certificate in Catholic School Administration, students are expected to commit a minimum of two years of service to a Catholic school in their diocese. Additionally, they will be given the opportunity to apply their new skills by implementing a specific project to enhance their  local Catholic school in a strategic area of identified need.

Duration: 1 year
Value to Participating Diocese: $37,380 (per group of 3 students)
