Dear Friends,

Since March 13, when newly elected Pope Francis appeared on the balcony at St. Peter’s Basilica, we have all witnessed a renewed burst of energy and purpose among Catholics. This is especially true for everyone associated with Catholic Extension. The pope’s message of lifting up the poor and forgotten has resonated deeply, because that is, and always has been, the mission of Catholic Extension. Since 1905, we have been living the pope’s message by maintaining a vast, efficient network of support for poor Catholics in America.

Last year, our donors’ generosity of heart allowed us to strengthen this network, meeting the needs of the Church not just for today, but also for tomorrow. In 2012, Catholic Extension provided more than 1,000 grants totaling nearly $22 million to the 91 mission dioceses we support. These grants are coming to life by building churches, educating seminarians and lay leaders, and strengthening church life and ministries in the poorest regions of our country. Overall, Catholic Extension donors have had an impact on the lives of 11 million Catholics!

I can’t imagine what the Church in America would look like without Catholic Extension. And I can’t imagine what Catholic Extension would look like without you. That’s because with your partnership, we are not only supporting the mission dioceses today, we are building the future, a future where the Church is vibrant and robust for all — our children, our children’s children and generations to come.

Thank you for joining us on our journey as the creative lifeline for the Catholic Church in America. May we all continue to experience a sense of renewal and energy, and transform these blessings into gifts of hope and faith for others.

Yours in Christ,

Reverend John J. Wall
President, Catholic Extension
